| With no hand holes in a Smoothwheel how do I get air to the inside
tire?
There is a 1.5" diameter hole on the Smoothwheel that is 180 degrees
from the outer valve stem for ease of inflation and checking pressure.
This hole must be aligned with the valve stem of the inner wheel when
mounting a Smoothwheel. A fill through cap on the inner stem is recommended
and we also offer a valve stem extension with a rubber stabilizer
to make inflation easier.
Do you have a plug to cover the hole on the front Smoothwheel?
We will soon offer a smooth plug to fill the hole and stabilize the
stem on the outside polished Smoothwheel making the surface entirely
free of holes.
How do the brakes keep cool with no hand holes?
On dualed wheels a Smoothwheel can only run in the outside position,
you have to run a hand holed steel or aluminum wheel on the inside,
this allows enough air flow to keep the brakes cool. Steering axles
get enough direct airflow from under the bumper to keep the brakes
cool.
I have always used Alcoa wheels do Accuride's perform as well?
Yes. Accuride Steel Wheels are now standard on all 8 of the class
8 North American truck OEs. Accuride aluminum wheels are standard
on 5 of the 8 including Freightliner, Navistar, Volvo, Sterling, and
Western Star. They can be specified on the remaining 3. Some notable
fleets currently specifying Accuride are Swift, Schneider, Wal-Mart,
JB Hunt, US Express, and Ryder.
Are Smoothwheels made overseas?
No, Accuride forges and polishes them in the USA.
Can I mount a Smoothwheel with a steel inner wheel?
Yes, but you must use a Wheel-Guard Separator Plate to prevent corrosion
and not void your warranty. Smoothwheel also recommends the separator
plate between aluminum wheels.
